Not complicated in the sense that it requires a degree. Complicated in the sense that one decision leads to three more, the online advice is contradictory, the parts look interchangeable but often are not, and somewhere between the first circuit and the finished system it stops feeling like a project and starts feeling like a liability.

A lot of low-voltage electrical products are sold as though price and availability are the only things that matter.
That approach is fine right up until the point someone actually has to install the thing, trust it, fault-find it, or build on it later.
The market is full of parts that look interchangeable from a distance but are not equal where it matters. Connector systems get compared lazily, cable quality is treated as an afterthought, termination quality is all over the place, and very little attention is paid to how a product will behave once it is part of a real vehicle or machine rather than a product photo on a white background.
For van builders and practical users, that becomes expensive quickly. Not always because a part fails spectacularly, but because the whole system becomes harder to trust, harder to maintain and harder to extend properly. One rushed decision turns into three compromises downstream.
That is also why the race to the bottom is such a dead end. If the only question is “What is the cheapest way to get two wires into a connector housing?”, the result is usually exactly what you would expect: something that might pass as acceptable on day one, but adds risk, confusion and avoidable rework later.
Voltforge exists because there should be a better middle ground between generic online retail and a full bespoke engineering project.
This is where Voltforge is different from most of what you will find in a search result. Not in terms of claims — anyone can write “premium quality” on a listing — but in terms of what has actually been specified and why. Thirty-five years of low-voltage DC experience goes into decisions that most buyers never see. Here is a sample of what that actually looks like.
Start with the cable. The assemblies we build use UK-made automotive cable with conductors manufactured to ISO 6722-1:2011 Class B — a standard written for automotive environments, covering temperature resistance up to 105°C continuous, conductor cross-section tolerances, and insulation wall thickness. The plain copper conductors meet BS EN 60228:2005, which governs conductor construction and stranding. Fine-stranded for flexibility and vibration resistance. PVC insulated for oil and abrasion resistance. Not chosen because it was available and cheap. Chosen because it is the correct specification for the environment these assemblies will actually live in.
On the connector side, the Deutsch DT series uses solid copper alloy contacts with nickel plating — the right choice for power circuits in harsh environments where corrosion resistance and low contact resistance under load both matter. Gold contacts are for signal and data applications; they have no place on the power circuits Voltforge assemblies are built for. The housing itself is glass-filled nylon rated to 125°C continuous, with a silicone rubber seal at each wire entry and a wedgelock that provides both contact retention redundancy and mating verification. When the wedgelock is seated, you know the contacts are home.
The crimp is where most failures actually originate, and it is also where most cheap assemblies cut corners. A correct DT contact crimp requires a controlled ratchet crimp tool that applies the correct force profile to both the conductor barrel and the insulation support in a single operation. The result is a gas-tight crimp that resists corrosion ingress at the conductor bundle. An incorrect crimp — wrong tool, wrong setting, wrong cable cross-section — produces a joint that may measure acceptable at ambient temperature but fails under thermal cycling, vibration or moisture ingress. This is also why the tooling barrier is real. Building Deutsch DT assemblies to a consistent standard requires the correct tooling. We have it. That is the point of a pre-built assembly.

After crimping, every contact gets a controlled application of Molykote DC4 — a silicone-based dielectric compound. DC4 is not a lubricant in the conventional sense. Its job in this application is to displace moisture from the contact face, prevent oxidation on the mating surfaces, and maintain the integrity of the sealed cavity environment inside the connector. In a connector that lives under a vehicle, on a roof line, or in an engine bay, that film is doing quiet but important work every time the ambient temperature cycles and the connector breathes. Alongside that, every Voltforge assembly uses the Deutsch C015 “E” seal in place of the standard cavity seal. The E-seal provides a tighter wire entry seal across a wider range of cable outside diameters — more forgiving in real-world build conditions where cable dimensions vary slightly between manufacturers, and more resistant to water ingress under sustained exposure. Standard seals do the job. The E-seal does it better. It costs more and takes longer to fit. We fit it anyway. It is the kind of detail that does not show up on a product listing and makes a measurable difference to long-term reliability.

The wiring approach is deliberate as well. Voltforge assemblies use grey wire with cavity heatshrink idents rather than a rainbow of coloured wires. Colour-coded wiring sounds helpful until you are the third person to work on a system and the colours mean something different to every installer who came before you. Grey with numbered or labelled cavity idents gives the installer and the next engineer after them an unambiguous reference that does not rely on anyone’s colour convention. It is a small decision that pays for itself the first time someone has to fault-find under a panel in poor light.
Finally, every finished assembly is checked for correct pinout, sealing, wedgelock seating and strain relief before it leaves the bench. All Voltforge assemblies carry a two-year warranty on materials and workmanship. That is not a marketing gesture. It is the logical consequence of building something to a standard you are prepared to stand behind.


The first range is built around Deutsch DT connector kits and pre-terminated assemblies in 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12-way formats. The 2-way and 3-way are the hero products at launch. The Deutsch DT series is the right place to start — it is the workhorse of harsh-environment low-voltage connector systems, well understood by auto electricians and serious DIYers, and genuinely suited to the environments van builders and overlanders are working in: engine bays, undersides, rooflines, external lighting, pumps, tank systems and anything else that lives in the wet and the dirt.
This is the first connector family Voltforge will offer. It will not be the last. We are not building a components shop with a long tail of loose parts. We are building a range of engineered assemblies across connector families that are genuinely useful for the applications our customers are actually working on. More will follow.
Each kit arrives complete and ready for splice-in work, harness repair or connector replacement — without the customer chasing missing parts or discovering a critical seal was not included. The kit is complete. That should be obvious. In this market, it often is not.
For customers with their own tooling and process, the pre-terminated assemblies are available on their own. Both routes, same build standard.

Yes, it costs more than the cheapest option on a search results page. The “that’s expensive for a connector with a bit of wire on it” objection is expected. The answer is short: yes, it costs more; no, it is not the same thing; see above for exactly why.

A proper electrical system should not become a mystery the moment the trim goes back on.
Good documentation does not need to be theatrical. It just needs to be useful. Clear connector identification. Sensible pinout information. Enough structure that an installer knows what they are looking at, and enough clarity that a future modification does not begin with educated guesswork and mild resentment.
A badly documented system is not just untidy. It is slower to work on, harder to trust, easier to damage, and far more likely to be bodged the next time someone needs to add or change something. Good systems reduce that friction.
That is one of the principles behind Voltforge.
